Javana Hamilton-McCall is June's Betty J. Lewis Unsung Hero!
Javana Hamilton-McCall, a Camden native, is a 1982 graduate of Camden High School. A highlight of her high school senior year was being selected and crowned Miss Black Ouachita County. Upon completing high school, Javana attended SAU Tech, graduating with her Associate of Science in Business Administration in 1985. From age six until thirty, Javana spent many years as a student and teacher at the Connie Booth School of Dance, where she developed a passion for ballet, jazz, and her favorite, tap. Javana later completed a Bachelor of Science in Education (1993) and a Master of Education in Mathematics/Science (1997) at SAU Magnolia.
She taught seventh-twelfth grade math for ten years in Lewisville, AR, and five years at Lafayette County High School. She also served seven years as an Instructional Facilitator at Lafayette County and an Adjunct Professor at UAHT-Hope. Javana received her Principal license in 2013. Upon returning home to Camden, she served as Instructional Facilitator, Assistant Principal, and Principal at Camden Fairview Middle School before moving to the Camden Fairview Central Office as Special Programs Coordinator. She received her Superintendent license in January 2019 before being hired as Assistant Superintendent in the Camden Fairview School District in March 2019.
Javana is a member of several state professional organizations and has served as secretary and vice-president of the Arkansas Association of School Personnel Administrators (ArkASPA) and a board member of the Arkansas Association of Curriculum and Development (AASCD). She received nominations for Federal Programs Coordinator, Administrator, and School Personnel Administrator of the Year Award. She was initiated in the Lambda Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. in the Spring of 1991 and is currently a member of the Magnolia Alumnae Chapter.
Javana is the youngest of six children born to Dorothy and Roy T. Hamilton. She is married to Retired Marine Stephone McCall and the mother of two adult children, TaRoya (Mike), and Jerome, Jr. She has six grandchildren, Justice, Draelon, Makayla, Deonte, Kylan, and Myla Kate, and one great-grandson, Keegan. “As an educator of thirty-one years, teaching the concepts of mathematics has been important. However, my passion lies in my love for children and a desire to support, encourage, and guide them to reach their full capabilities,” says Javana.
