Welcome to Southern Arkansas University Tech's Police Department! The Campus Police Department is under the direction of the Chief of Police for the Southern Arkansas University System and SAU Tech’s Vice Chancellor for Student Services.

The SAU Tech Police Department is manned by fully trained law enforcement officers and provides protection and enforcement for the college’s campus. For immediate assistance call the Officers' cell phone at 870.818.6353 or 870-574-4517 for dispatch.

Emergencies - How to Call for Help

Emergencies that need the Campus Police:

  • When a suicide ATTEMPT or THREAT  is made
  • When someone is raped or assaulted or tells you about being raped or assaulted
  • Disruptive behavior by a student or anyone on campus
  • Accidents where someone might be hurt
  • When someone is ill or is disoriented and has trouble breathing

If you are on campus call 870-818-6353 for campus police.
If you can't reach anyone at these numbers, call 870-574-4517 for the Ouachita County Sheriff's Department dispatcher or 870-798-2323 for the Calhoun County Sheriff.

When dialing off-campus from a college phone, the prefix 9 must be dialed with all off-campus numbers. When dialing on-campus from a college phone number, dial only the last four numbers (e.g., 4517).

Information Needed When Calling for Help

What type of help is needed (e.g., fire, police, ambulance, etc.). For a medical emergency on campus, generally request both an ambulance and campus police.

Where the emergency situation is - in what building, floor and room number or location.
Phone number from which you are calling.
What happened (e.g., overdose, fall, fire, etc.).
How many persons need help?
What is being done for the victim?

NOTE: Let the person you called hang up the telephone first; you hang up last. If you must leave the phone, leave the phone off the hook so that the call can be traced.

SAU Tech Police Department Citation Information

SAU Tech Police Department Officers have the authority to issue campus citations and county/municipal citations in the county or municipal court. Provided below is information regarding the appeals process and fines for campus citations. If you have any questions regarding a citation, please contact the SAUTPD during business hours at 870.574-4517.

Jeanne Clery Act & SAU Tech's Annual Safety Report

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Police Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires the distribution of an annual security report to all current faculty, staff, and students and notice of its availability to prospective students, faculty, and staff.

The annual security/fire safety report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes on campus, in certain off‐campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Southern Arkansas University Tech, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as politicizes concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, fire safety, and other matters.
