SAU Tech Recognized Among Top U.S. Community Colleges Eligible for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Excellence

Southern Arkansas University Tech has once again earned national recognition for excellence in higher education. The college was recently named one of only seven Arkansas community colleges eligible to apply for the 2027 Aspen prize for Community College Excellence -- the nationa's most prestigious award honoring outstanding community colleges.

What is the Aspen Prize?

Awarded every two years by the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Prize highlights U.S. community colleges that deliver exceptional results in student learning, degree completion, workforce development, and equitable access for all learners. Only 150-200 colleges nationwide make the list of eligible institutions, placing SAU Tech among the top 15% of community colleges in the country.

Why SAU Tech Stands Out

SAU Tech continues to be recognized for its commitment to transforming lives through education and innovation. Here's what sets the college apart:

Student Success: SAU Tech consistently ranks among the top community colleges in Arkansas for graduation and transfer rates, helping students achieve their educational goals.

Workforce Readiness: Through partnerships with local and regional employers, the college provides hands-on training programs that lead directly to high-demand careers.

Equity and Access: SAU Tech proudly supports first-generation, low-income, and minority students, providing them with the resources and mentorship needed to thrive.

Innovation in Learning: With programs in Aerospace Defense Manufacturing, Allied Health, Cybersecurity, and advanced technical fields, SAU Tech prepares students for success in the modern workforce.

"Being named an Aspen Top 200 College eligible to apply for the Aspen Prize is a great honor for SAU Tech," said Dr. Jerry Thomas, SAU Tech Chancellor. "It reflects the hard work of our faculty, staff, and students, and highlights our commitment to student success and workforce development."

A Statewide Honor for Arkansas Community Colleges

SAU Tech joins six other Arkansas institutions recognized by the Aspen Institute: Arkansas State University Mid-South, Ozarka College, University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, University of Arkansas Community College at Rich Mountain, University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, and North Arkansas College.

Finalists for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence will be announced in 2026, with the national winner revealed in early 2027.
