SAU Tech Opens New State-of-the-Art EMS Training Facility to Strengthen Emergency Response in South Arkansas
East Camden, AR (Wednesday, December 3, 2025) — Southern Arkansas University Tech (SAU Tech) has officially opened its new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to expand EMT, paramedic, and emergency medical training across South Arkansas. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marks a major milestone in SAU Tech’s ongoing commitment to improving regional emergency response and addressing the critical shortage of trained EMS professionals.
The new EMS Training Center is a major expansion of the Arkansas Fire Training Academy, providing increased capacity for CPR certification, Advanced EMT training, paramedic education, and emergency medical simulations. The facility will also support dual-enrollment and workforce development opportunities for both high school students and adult learners seeking careers in emergency medical services.
"This isn't just a building -- it's a place where we're preparing the people who will be on the scene when it matters most. Every life they save starts with the training they receive right here at SAU Tech," - Dr. Jerry Thomas, Chancellor of SAU Tech.
Features of the New EMS Training Center
The 11,294-square-foot training center is designed to mirror real-world emergency medical environments. Key features include:
- Three modern EMS classrooms supporting lecture and hands-on instruction
- Two emergency room simulation labs with industry-standard technology
- A work bay and fully equipped ambulance bay for advanced scenario-based training
- Student lounge and collaboration areas
- Administrative offices and a conference room for instructors and program coordination
By replicating real emergency conditions, the center will enhance student preparedness through immersive, hands-on training.
Chief Grant Warner, Director of the Arkansas Fire Training Academy, emphasized the impact the new EMS center will have on regional readiness.
"This new facility gives our instructors the tools and capacity to train more EMTs and paramedics at the highest level. It will strengthen emergency response across South Arkansas and help ensure that communities have the professionals they need when every second counts," - Chief Grant Warner, Arkansas Fire Training Academy.
Expanding EMS Training Opportunities in South Arkansas
The new EMS Training Center will support an expanded lineup of emergency medical programs beginning in early 2026, including additional EMT, AEMT, paramedic, and continuing education courses. This growth comes at a crucial moment as Arkansas communities and the nation face ongoing shortages in trained emergency responders.
