October 16, 2026

SAU Tech welcomed federal, regional, and industry leaders on October 16 for the Aerospace & Defense Infrastructure and Workforce Roundtable, an important discussion focused on the opportunities and challenges accompanying the continued growth of the aerospace and defense sectors across South Arkansas.

The event brought together stakeholders committed to strengthening the workforce pipeline, supporting economic development, and ensuring the region is prepared to meet the increasing demands of defense-related industries. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations surrounding workforce development, housing availability, infrastructure needs, and the economic pressures created by expanding employment opportunities and growing production requirements.

A special thank you goes to U.S. Senator John Boozman and U.S. Congressman Bruce Westerman for their participation and continued support of workforce and economic development initiatives throughout the region. Their willingness to listen to community leaders, educators, and industry representatives underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing South Arkansas.

"As these communities continue to grow of the demand for skilled workers, that also increases the infrastructure needs, the housing needs increase. And we want to make sure Camden, Magnolia, El Dorado have really strong communities and that's why we are here today," stated Dr. Jerry Thomas. Thomas also thanked Boozman for "your leadership, your confidence in Camden and South Arkansas and SAU Tech."

SAU Tech also extends its sincere appreciation to its partners throughout the Southern Arkansas University System for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to advancing educational and workforce solutions that meet the needs of the region's employers and communities.

Following the roundtable discussion, attendees toured SAU Tech's newly renovated Manufacturing Building. The facility showcases state-of-the-art training labs designed to prepare students and incumbent workers for careers in advanced manufacturing and defense-related industries. Highlights of the tour included hands-on training areas dedicated to robotics and metrology, providing participants with a firsthand look at the innovative technologies and workforce training opportunities available on campus.

The day served as a powerful reminder that addressing regional workforce and infrastructure needs requires strong partnerships among government leaders, industry, and educational institutions. Through continued collaboration, SAU Tech remains committed to developing the skilled workforce necessary to support the future of South Arkansas and the nation's aerospace and defense industries.
