SAU Tech proudly offers academic pathways that recognize the training and experience of law enforcement professionals. Through our partnership with the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA), we help officers turn their academy experience into college credit—saving time and money while advancing their education.

These programs are ideal for current officers, ALETA alumni, or anyone seeking a career in law enforcement, criminal justice, or public safety.
Credit for ALETA Graduates: Save Time, Save Money
Many of these courses are available fully online, and scholarships are available for qualified students. Graduates of ALETA can earn 28 college credit hours toward multiple academic credentials at SAU Tech. Here's how it works:
1. Certificate of Proficiency (CP) in Criminal Justice
Earn 11 credit hours for ALETA completion
Gain a foundational credential in criminal justice
Ideal for professionals wanting to formalize their ALETA experience
2. Technical Certificate (TC) in Law Enforcement
CP credit counts toward this credential
Additional required courses:
MATH 1023 – College Math
ENGL 1113 – Composition I
The remaining 6 credit hours are granted through SAU Tech’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
3. Associate of Professional Studies (APS) in Law Enforcement
Designed for long-term career growth in public safety or criminal justice
Requires 26 General Education hours, which:
Can be taken at SAU Tech or transferred from other accredited institutions
All other hours are awarded through PLA credit based on ALETA training
Prior Training Credit for ALETA Graduates (1990–1996)
If you completed ALETA training between 1990 and 1996, you may qualify for 28 hours of college credit through a 1-credit hour Portfolio Development course. This short course allows you to document your ALETA experience and qualify for both academic credit and financial aid.
Students who completed ALETA training
after 1997 but didn’t receive a Technical Certificate may still submit their ALETA certificate to receive
28 hours of prior learning credit and access scholarship opportunities.
