Participants gathered Saturday morning, Feb. 1, 2020, for the first annual Betty J. Lewis 5K Walk/Run event at SAU Tech. The participants walked and ran a route through the campus and the Highland Park area and finished up with photos and smiles all around. The funds raised go to support the Betty J. Lewis Minority Scholarship for SAU Tech students which is managed by the SAU Tech Foundation. Betty J. Lewis was a former SAU Tech employee who passed away from cancer. Every year the College hosts the SAU Tech Black History Celebration in February to commemorate black history and raise funds for the scholarship. The 5K was added to assist in fundraising efforts. The speaker for 2020 is Sidney Moncrief. The event is on Feb. 20 and tickets are on sale now. More information on purchasing tickets can be found at www.sautech.edu/community-education.
