| The Arkansas Environmental Academy is the state training agency for Wastewater training. Not only do we offer basic licensing courses, we also offerspecialized and industrial courses that are developed to meet continuing educational needs for various workplace settings. The Academy has tried to include on this page a break down of the fees and requirements for each Wastewater license. We have also listed the California manuals required for each Wastewater course. Application and Fees Requirements Books Other Wastewater Resources Frequently Asked Questions Application and Fees Beginning July 1, 2000 Wastewater operators will be responsible for filling out an " Application for Wastewater License (pdf) " form prior to testing. The operator must also send $40.00 with the application to cover the testing fee. Some of ADEQ's fees are as follows: Wastewater test $40.00 Apprentice License $10.00 Yearly renewal $20.00 Late fee on renewal $10.00 For more information on the Wastewater Licensing Program log on to ADEQ's Website.
Requirements of Wastewater license Class I Wastewater: - High school dipolma, GED, or equivalent;
- satisfactory completion of 40 hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the Wastewater Licensing Committee;
- and pass a Class I exam.
Class II Wastewater: - Hold a Class I license;
- carried out the duties of a Class I operator;
- satisfactory completion of 80 hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the Wastewater Licensing Committee;
- 2 years experience in wastewater treatment or related field;
- and pass a Class II exam.
Class III Wastewater: - Hold a Class II license;
- carried out the duties of a Class II operator;
- satisfactory completion of 120 hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the Wastewater Licensing Committee;
- completion of a total of 3 years of experience in wastewater treatment (with 1 year in treatment plant operation);
- and pass Class III exam.
Class IV Wastewater: - Hold a Class III license for at least 3 years;
- carried out the duties of a Class III operator;
- satisfactory completion of 200 hours of approved training or equivalent or substitute training as determined or defined by the Wastewater Licensing Committee;
- completion of 6 years of experience in wastewater treatment (with at least 2 years in direct charge of a wastewater treatment plant or one of the major components);
- and pass a Class IV exam.

Anyone who is in responsible charge of the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, in whole or in part, and who, during the performance of his/her regular duties, exercises individual judgment which directly or indirectly may affect the proper operation of such a plant. (Reference Regulation 3) Once I receive my license, how many renewal hours do I need? 12 hours of approved wastewater training must be attained annually (hours in excess of 12 may be carried forward one year). What is the waiting period between exams? - Three months after a passed exam provided that all requirements are met. However, there must be a three year waiting period before the Class IV.
