SAU Tech's Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is designed to provide entry-level students with the general knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to have a successful career in the field of sonography.

Southern Arkansas University Tech’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is a 71 credit hour program designed to provide students with general knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to have a successful career in diagnostic medical sonography. This program is based on the requirements necessary to pass the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography (ARDMS) certification examination and to function as a general sonographer. Upon completion of the coursework, graduates earn an Associates of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and once all requirements are met, are eligible to take the ARDMS examination in Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI), Abdomen and Obstetrics and Gynecology. A selective admissions process is used for student enrollment into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

Students entering the Sonography program must have a passion for helping others, have a willingness to learn, an understanding of human anatomy and physiology and physics, and good eye-hand coordination. Students who complete the program will be qualified to work at hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare facilities utilizing general sonography. Students from this program can potentially work in any county in Arkansas which has a facility that performs sonography.

*Please note: Students must take the TEAS Exam for Allied Health prior to the application deadline.
