SAU Tech Multimedia
Web Design & Development
Welcome
Two years now = many years of job satisfaction!
Are you ready for a technically and creatively challenging, fast-paced career? Perhaps you're tired of creating drag-n-drop websites without a clue as to how things are coded, let alone fixed when problems occur. Or, perhaps you find yourself looking at a website and wondering "how'd they do that?"
Hello! My name is John Rockwell, SAU Tech's Web Design & Development Instructor. My program is unique and very challenging! Why? Because Web Designers and Developers are constantly in demand and must be widely experienced and flexible technicians and communicator's -- just to enter the workforce.
Gone are the days when simple web pages (brochures) are the norm. Today, and in the future, to stay competitive, clients and businesses are asking for more -- much more from their online presence. From streaming Film & Video Productions to eye-catching, targeted animated content, secure e-commerce and content management, the web has changed and will continue to do so -- requiring technical skills beyond "drag-and-drop".
If you have a "can do" attitude, determination and desire to learn about web standards decisions, graphics, animation, Film & Video Production, coding and project management in a never-the-same technical lifestyle, I can provide you with an educational experience you won't soon forget -- or regret, right here in beautiful southern Arkansas.
Let's first discuss what a Web Developer/Designer is. Contrary to some beliefs, a Developer & Designer are not the same, but they aren't mutually exclusive either. Confused? let's see if we can clear some of this up.
A Developer, in it's most basic industry form, is a coder (someone who types in computer code or instructions for the computer to follow). They are the one's who take a concept, a plan and develop the underlying structure of a website. They fix problems or "bugs" and are constantly refining their code to be efficient and workable across the multitude of platforms on which web-based information flows. Think of this as the LOGICAL side of your brain. Yes, it can be an artform because you practice coding standards.
A Designer, on the other hand, is one focuses on the presentation level. Designers develop graphics and animation objects that carry a visual message related to the words or content within a web page. Think of this as the CREATIVE side of your brain.
Put these two together and you have technical harmony. This balance is what you will be taught in the Web Design & Development program.
