Offered in both the Fall and Spring semesters, this is the fundamental course for Web Design & Development and is required for all Multimedia degree or certificate seeking students. Through a series of lectures, guided practice and practical exercises, the student develops the requisite skills to produce cross-browser compatible website designs and styles using the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and optimized web graphics. All multimedia students must take this course.

This course teaches the foundations and fundamentals of cross-browser compatible JavaScript through lecture and demonstration and performance in a variety of client/server web environments. A fundamental understanding of HTML 4 and programming concepts is helpful, but not required for this course.

Offered during the Spring semester, this course extends and asseses the foundations of knowledge and practical application of the various courses that web program students take into a further course of study in cross-browser compatible, scripted applications design and development. Students will demonstrate critical thinking and analysis skills involving client relations, administration, concepts, design and development (debugging) of professional-level websites, focused on a target audience. The student will use Adobe Dreamweaver 8, Photoshop CS2, xhtml, CSS, JavaScript, ColdFusion MX or ASP, Microsoft Access, audio/video (compression and presentation) and Adobe Flash 8 Professional. The end result is an advanced digital portfolio website.

An introductory course is for new web developers, this course focuses on the .NET client/server framework environment using Microsoft's IIS (Internet Information Server), website script development and SQL Server Express databases. We will then focus on using VB to develop .NET web applications for the course.

This course will provide a broad understanding of the art and science of effective information transfer (interaction) over the internet through web page interfaces. Students will study, discuss and apply several time-tested principles of web usability including layout, content presentation and underlying/supporting website architecture, forming a base upon which to plan and develop effective, interactive website interfaces.
