What kind of job can I get with this degree?

It really depends on what you want to do. More and more companies are moving toward hiring their own in-house designers. These designers create all promotional pieces such as ads, billboards, logos, brochures, etc. You may be asked to design websites as well. On the other hand, if you are a self-motivated person, you can also do well as a freelance designer. That means you work for yourself and design a wide variety of work for anyone with a need and a pocketbook!

Do I need to be able to draw well to be a good designer?

Ok, I get this one all the time. No, you don't need to be a Picasso to make it in this field. What you do need is an eye for good design and a creative mind. If you are a visual and creative person, you've already got a good foundation to become a great designer.

I can draw REALLY well! Don't you think that means I'd be a good designer?

Hmmm, it's very likely but not always a guarantee. You need to like computers and be comfortable using one. Most of what you do will be done through the computer. You need to be able to put those drawing skills towards creating a creative digital design that communicates the intended message to a target audience.

I'm not really sure what kind of degree I want. Graphic Design sounds fun and I bet the classes are going to be really easy. How hard can it be, right?

Wrong! As with any of our three Multimedia AAS degrees and Technical Certificates, be prepared to work long and hard in mine. It takes an enormous amount of time and practice to develop the requisite skills. You must be willing to push yourself and work on your own as-well-as in class to produce the quality of work it takes to be successful in this field.
