I've heard that I have to get a four-year degree to compete in today's job market. Is this true?

Although we highly encourage continuing education beyond a technical certification or associate's degree (learning is a life-long experience!), we have found that our students are able to successfully compete for jobs at the entry-level. We continue to receive calls from company and industry recruiters looking for graduates with our special blend of talents. Students in all three program areas are getting jobs!

It is imperative that we teach relevant skills to our students. We combine intense academic coursework with real-world projects to build student portfolio's and to provide viable project experience. Instructors are well versed in industry trends and keep in touch with technologies that are moving their craft forward. Each semester, new concepts and practices are introduced into curriculum that ensures students are prepared as much as possible to make an immediate impact. It's not enough these day to only provide academics.

We encourage our graduates to continue their education and pursue advanced degree's, but again, our programs prepare students for entry-level positions after two years.

Instructor's are evaluated each semester and each participates in various committee's throughout the campus. Each is a member of SAU Tech's Marketing Committee and support SAU Tech's student recruiting and activities efforts. How modern are your Facilities?

The R.E.L. Technical Engineering ("Tech") facility is one of the newset and most strikingly designed on campus. Most computer science classes are held in this building. The Multimedia department is located in the north wing of the second floor. We have Film & Video Production studio's, a "Mac Lab" (configured with Apple Macintosh workstations), and a "PC Lab" (configured with a combination of Dell, HP and Snap workstations and servers). Each lab is networked at 100mbps. We'll post some updated photo's here soon!

We also offer a break area for students who want to relax between classes. SAU Tech's Student Center is a short walk across the courtyard from the Tech building. Inside you'll find a cafeteria, large screen TV, Video Game player, foosball, air hockey, ping pong and other activities. Here's a campus map.

Can I use a laptop in my classes? What types of software or hardware will I need? Is wireless available?

Although we offer numerous, up to date workstations for coursework, the number of laptops being used in courses is on the increase and we get this question more and more frequently. At the beginning of each term, each program instructor will outline specific capabilities and limitations for those students who prefer to use them. Wireless is not yet available in classrooms or on campus.

In all cases, if students elect to bring their own laptops and use them for classes, the student is required to have up-to-date and active virus scanning software and fully registered and licensed (personally purchased) software of the same version as the course being taken. Commercial projects cannot be worked on unless under the specific approval of the instructor. Laptops may not be connected to the school's network; however, we have completied an upgrade of the PC Lab to permit an internal (closed) network conection to our academic project servers and peripherals for school work. Stay tuned for some exciting news about wirless connectivity for students at SAU Tech!

Take a look at the FAQs in your specific program area of interest for additional hardware/software information.
