Will you teach me how to be a record producer?
The quick and easy answer is no. Everything we teach about audio relates directly to video. The reason is quick and easy as well. There are far more jobs out there for people who know how to make video and film sound great than there are for people who want to make music. Some of the information and techniques cross over into both worlds, but we concentrate on audio for video/film.
Will it help me get a better job if I already know how to run a camera?
Yes, you will be able to go farther in your two years with SAU Tech if you already have some experience. It doesn't matter what you are shooting, just shoot something to get you going.
Can I come to SAU Tech if I have no experience with video or audio?
Yes, you can come with nothing more than a willingness to learn (ok, you need to wear something as well :-).
What type of gear do you use at your school?
On the Film & Video Production side, we are primarily a Macintosh (Mac) house using the full line of Apple video and audio computer products. We also use and teach Adobe products. We shoot with Canon XL1's and Sony DSR-250's. We have complete ENG packages including field mixers, booms, lavs, etc.
What kind of jobs can I get when I graduate from your program??
From film to television to the internet, there are great jobs available. You could be an assistant cameraperson or a grip on a film crew. You could be on a news team as a photog. You could run a satellite truck or van. You could edit and encode video for web sites. Check out the web sites I talked about on the Multimedia AV opening (Welcome) page to see if these jobs are really out there.
Where will I have to move to get a job?
There are jobs all over the world! From Hawaii to Hong Kong, jobs are available. Again, check out the web sites on the Multimedia Film & Video Production opening (Welcome) page and check out the locations.
I'm not looking for a school to attend, I'm looking for a crew to hire. What do I need to do to make that happen?
We do contract work all over this region of the United States. From film grips and AC's to PA's and shooters for major networks, we have experienced students for you. Just send me an email (staylor@sautech.edu) or use our convenient online form and I'll get back with you ASAP.
What will I learn in Multimedia Film & Video Production?
First of all, you will find out through experience what it takes to make it in a production environment. You'll learn how to shoot awesome video. Of course, to do that you'll learn how to light your shot. You'll learn how to get great audio. You'll learn how to tell a story with a camera and a computer. Most importantly, you'll learn how to work with real people, in the real world, on real projects.
If I come to your school, can I get a job in the film industry?
We have students who are working in the film industry. The film community is a small, tight knit group of people. Our students have been successful working their way into this community and we hope that we will have more success in the near future. There are many factors involved in you getting a job in the industry. You've got to be in the right place at the right time and you've got to know the right people. We know the right people, the rest is up to how hard you are willing to work.
