| Your parents put the Legos and Lincoln Logs away years ago, but do you still catch yourself marveling at the way you can create an olympian "something" out of practically nothing? If so, your knack for building things can be more than just a hobby. This program of study is designed to provide instruction in three phases of building trades: plumbing, carpentry, and electrical. All three will be stressed in the classroom and on-the-job activities. This course is also nationally certified by Associated General Contractors. The Construction Technology Program is available at the Career Academy site in Fordyce. Core courses defined by the Department of Workforce Education: Carpentry: An instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to layout, fabricate, erect, install, and repair wooden structures and fixtures, using hand and power tools. Includes instruction in areas such as common systems of framing, construction materials, estimating, blueprint reading and finish carpentry techniques. Fundamentals of Construction: An instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in building, inspecting, and maintenance of structures and related properties. Elective Options defined by the Department of Workforce Education: Electrical: An instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in installing and repairing residential systems. Plumbing: An instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in layout, assembly, installation, and maintaining piping fixtures and piping systems, hot water, heating, cooling, and drainage systems. Includes instruction in material selection and use of tools to cut, bend, and join pipes. Concurrent College Credit at SAU Tech: GT1013 Building Construction I GT1023 Building Construction II Students completing the sequence of concurrent college credit courses will earn the Certificate of Proficiency in Building Trades from SAU Tech. |
