GED PROGRAM
This program provides an alternative means for adults who have not completed the unit requirements for a high school diploma to obtain a high school credential. The General Educational Development (GED) test is nationally recognized and covers competencies in reading, mathematics, science, social studies and writing.
Adults wanting to take the GED examination are encouraged to enroll in the GED preparation program. Teachers will work with students on the skills needed to pass the test. When the student and teacher decide the student is ready, a GED test is given. The charge for the test is Free!!!.
Adults who pass the GED examination will receive a state high school equivalency diploma. This allows students to continue their education at a college or technical school, provided the student meets the entrance requirements.
COMPUTER CLASSES
Introduction to Computers (PC100) This class begins with turning the computer on, learning to use the mouse, altering the appearance of Windows, locating, opening, organizing, and saving files, utilizing toolbars, dialog boxes, and desktop technology. It then expands to include making shortcuts, arranging and organizing the desktop, using Windows Explorer, creating files and folders, formatting floppies, clicking and dragging, altering hardware settings, fonts, searching and saving files.
Microsoft Excel This is a spreadsheet program. The class includes creating formulas, setting up spreadsheets, etc. It also deals with using graphs, charts, and pivot tables in presenting your information in an effective manner.
Microsoft Access The most powerful relational database program available. Learn to plan and create a database. Use tables, forms, queries and reports to manage data. Participate in a class project of practical application.
Microsoft PowerPoint The exciting program allows you to create graphic visual presentations using pictures, sound, video clips, clip art, and other forms of multimedia.
ADULT BASIC EDUCATION
It's never to late!! Classes in basic educaiton provide instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and life skills. This self-paced program is designed for adults who left school early and need to reinforce their basic skills. Computer software, print materials, audio cassettes and video material are all employed to provide instruction and reinforcement. When this level is mastered the student moves on to GED instruction or begins work on high school diploma classes.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
This program is intended for adults whose native language is NOT English. It concentrates on teaching the student survival English and skills needed to function here in America. This class is not intended to teach grammar or composition skills. Students from all nations are welcome and attend the same class meetings.
