Java Repair

Java problems are the cause of many of the problems associated with Blackboard.
To start, click this link to download the proper version of Java to be compatible with Blackboard. After downloading and installing the new version of Java, close all of your open browsers then log back into Blackboard.

Disabling Pop-up Blockers

Pop-up blockers are the second leading cause of problems while using Blackboard. Follow the instructions below to identify any pop-up blockers on your browsers.

If you are having problems viewing your eBook, make sure you are not in the Respondus LockDown Browser. You will also need to enable popups to be able to view your eBook.

Allow Pop ups in Mozilla Firefox

1. Click Tools on the toolbar (Press Alt+T on your keyboard if you do not see Tools).
2. Click Options
3. When the options window opens, click on Content tab, uncheck the Block pop up windows check box.
4. Click Ok

Allow Pop Ups in Google Chrome

You can allow all pop ups by disabling the pop up blocker. Follow these steps:
1. Click the Chrome menu on the right in the browser toolbar
2. Select Settings
3. Click Show advanced settings...
4. In the Privacy section, click the Content settings button
5. In the Pop ups section, select Allow all sites to show pop ups
6. Click Done
7. Close the Settings Window

Allow Pop Ups in Internet Explorer

1. Click the "gear" icon in the top right
2. Click Internet Options
3. Click the Privacy tab
4. In the Pop up blocker section, uncheck Turn on pop up blocker
5. Click Apply, then Ok

Toolbar Pop-up blockers (can be found in both Internet Explorer and Firefox)

Sometimes browsers come with a toolbar that has a built-in pop-up blocker that can cause issues with both Blackboard and the Respondus LockDown Browser. If you have it in your browser, it will look similar to the image below:

Toolbar

Follow the instructions below to remove the toolbar from your browser.

1. Click the down arrow next to the Toolbar's wrench Wrench icon.
2. Select Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
3. Click the Uninstall button.

Try Another Browser

If all else fails, try another browser. Click here to download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. Firefox is the most compatible browser with Blackboard, and will more than likely cure your problem if you are using Internet Explorer. The newest version of Mozilla Firefox may not be validated by Blackboard yet (Browser Checker will say the browser is non-validated when you login to Blackboard), but it will be soon, and it should function properly in Blackboard.

Other good browsers:

Chrome Google Chrome
Safari Apple Safari
Firefox Mozilla Firefox

Removing Spyware

Spyware can cause your computer to become unusually slow and can interfere with normal browser operation. Below is a link to a free anti-spyware program recommended by Web-Based Learning.
