Industry Course Descriptions

Introduction to Industrial Fire

Protection-Incipient Fire Brigade
escription: Basic Introduction to Industrial Fire Protection meets the minimum standards set forth by OSHA 1910 Sub Part L and NFPA 600. Covers fire brigade organization, theory of combustion, use of 1 inch hose and related equipment. Includes how to utilize an Incident Command System. 16 hours

Industrial Portable Fire Extinguishers
Description: Covers the inspection, use and maintenance requirements of portable fire extinguishers, theory and classification of fire, selecting proper extinguishers, and the use and limitations of extinguishers. 4-8 hours

Industrial Protective Equipment
Description: Covers the use, care, and maintenance of all protective clothing including helmet, coat, trousers, gloves, alert systems, and self-contained breathing apparatus. Includes practical evolutions and hands-on training with assigned equipment. 16 hours

Hazardous Materials Awareness Level
Description: This course addresses the objectives of OSHA 1910. 120/ EPA 311 and NFPA 472. Subject areas covered are the recognition and identification of hazardous materials, common workplace hazards, working with the emergency operations plan, and the Incident Command System. 8 hours

Hazardous Materials Operations Level
Description: This course addresses the objectives of OSHA 1910-120/ EPA 311 and NFPA 472. Subject areas addressed are: safe response to a hazardous material release in a defensive mode, chemical/ biological definitions, use of an Incident Command System, use of the local emergency response plan, and protective clothing. 24 hours

Hazardous Materials Technician Level
Description: This course addresses the objectives of OSHA 1910. 120/ EPA 311 and NFPA 472. It covers training in the following areas: chemical terms and definitions, monitoring equipment, personal protective equipment, plugging, patching, containment and confinement of hazardous materials. Training on rail, highway vehicle accidents, and the use of local emergency operation plans and the Incident Command System. 40 hours

Industrial Incident Management
Description: This course covers the use of an Incident Command System during emergency operations within the industry. It is designed for supervisors and managers with the added responsibility of managing fire brigades and hazardous material emergencies. Table top activities will reinforce the information received by the participants. 8-16 hours

Confined Space Industry
Description: Exceeds OSHA 1910.146 Permit Entry Required Confined Space. This course is designed to help the participants learn the inherent hazards associated with confined space. Subjects included are lock-in-tag-out systems, proper identification of hazards, air sampling techniques and instrumentation, equipment requirements, and special rigging techniques. 24 hours

Industrial Search and Rescue
Description: Covers the techniques used to rescue victims from smoke filled environments using a team concept. This course also includes safety procedures, personnel accountability, and the use of an Incident Command System. 16 hours

CPR
Description: Designed to teach students how to render CPR to unconscious victims that are not breathing or have no heart beat. Content is governed by the current methodology of the American Heart Association. 16 hours

Industrial First Responder
Description: The course covers emergency care of injured, stabilization and packaging of patients, rescue procedures, CPR, and anatomy of the human body. 40 hours

Industrial Firefighting Techniques (Interior)
Description: Covers fire behavior, initial attack procedures, use of fire hose and related equipment for total fire extinguishment, protective equipment including self contained breathing apparatus and the use of an Incident Command System. 40 hours

Industrial Flammable Liquid Fire Control
Description: Covers flammable liquid fire behavior, techniques for the control of flammable liquids fires, use of the appropriate foaming agents, water application for fire control, and the use of the Incident Command System. 16 hours

Hazardous Material Operations 8 hours
Incident Command 8 hours
Confined Space 16 hours

NOTE: All classes taught meet or exceed the appropriate standard. Class size and price is based on 20 students. The Academy will need at least a four-week notice for scheduling instructors. If you have any questions fill free to contact me.
